Carley Gracie, lion of the Gracie family of Brazil, practices and teaches the unique martial art known as the Brazilian or Gracie style of Jiu-Jitsu. The Gracie Style is recognized to be the most effective fighting art in the world today.

Carley's achievements are legendary in the Gracie family. He was Brazilian professional national champion in both Sport Jiu-Jitsu and Vale Tudo (the "everything goes" precursor to MMA) for four years, and received his seventh degree black belt at the unprecedented age of twenty-two. His professional record is unparalleled within the Gracie family. Known in Brazil as O Indestrutível (" the indestructible one"), he could break up a dispute among Gracies by simply offering to join in the fray. Carley Gracie is the only member of his generation who has never been defeated in any match, public or private, not even within the Gracie family!

Grand Master Carley Gracie has been teaching since he was a teenager in Rio, and currently holds a 9th degree Red Belt ranking from the Federation of Jiu-Jitsu of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  He is recognized to be one of the most technical practitioners in the Gracie family. He came to the United States in late 1972 and was the first member of the Gracie family to teach the Gracie Style in the United States. He is a patient teacher, skilled in explaining and demonstrating the techniques and concepts that make the Gracie Style so effective.
